Sociology of Nursing
Description
This course provides a sociological examination, of the nursing profession with an emphasis on the nature of the relationship between nursing and the society within which it functions. A variety of occupational topics are examined, including the evolution of nursing from informal work to contemporary professional status; concepts of professionalism and, professionalization; the role of expert knowledge and membership in the nursing profession; occupational demographics and how/why they change; and regulatory, public, and patient influences on the profession.
