Building on previous academic work, students can complete a Social Service Worker diploma with a field placement experience in 8 months.
What you'll learn
  • Develop awareness of yourself, gain greater insight into who you are and experience personal growth.
  • Discover how Social Service Workers facilitate positive changes in the lives of others.
  • Focus on the relationships that people have with each other and the world around them as a way of supporting others and promoting community and social change.
  • Core values required to be effective and ethical social service workers such as the right to choose, the right to equality, justice and access to service.
  • Helping skills such as interviewing, assessing the needs of others, working effectively with groups and assisting communities to change.
  • Develop the ability to document, work within legal and ethical frameworks and understand the importance of respecting the uniqueness and dignity of all people.
  • Learn about anti-oppressive theory and practice as it relates to advocacy and case management.

Potential applicants need to be aware that the agencies working with our placement students are requiring placement students to be fully vaccinated by Health Canada approved vaccines. Please consider your vaccine status when considering this program as it will have a significant impact on your ability to participate in field placement.
