Welcome to the Online Master of Social Work for Working Professionals
 
The mission of the Online Master of Social Work for Working Professionals is to promote social justice through quality professional education, advocacy, community partnerships, and the development and dissemination of knowledge through enquiry. Our goal is to provide students the opportunity to enjoy a fulfilling educational experience where they will embrace a leadership role in social work education and research becoming the social work leaders of tomorrow. 
 
Please note MSWwp Students are ineligible to receive a GA position as this is a professional weekend program and students are working professionals.
 
Program Overview

Advance your skills and recharge your career with the MSW for Working Professionals On-line Program
The program requirements are modeled after our full-time on-campus MSW program however you will be enrolled in exclusive sections of these courses that are limited to students in the MSW for Working Professionals Online Program. Students will take the prescribed courses sequentially. The schedule is rigorous but you will have time in between course weekends to complete assignments.
 
A set path for success

Our MSW for Working Professionals classes run online in Zoom Fridays from 3:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., and Saturdays from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. You will attend class on alternating weekends (with some exceptions). The program is completed in a specific course sequence and you will attend with the same cohort.
 
For those entering the Regular Track with a four-year honours BA, you will complete the program in 32 months. Students entering with an honours BSW who are admitted to the Advanced Track will complete the program in 16 months.

You will have an opportunity to share ideas, gain knowledge of best practices from other agencies and organizations, and learn from expert faculty who are not only top teaching talent but who are committed to civic engagement. After each class weekend, you will be able to transfer your new knowledge and skills back to your workplace, the results are immediate.
 
 
Admission Requirements and Available Intakes

The Master of Social Work for Working Professionals 

This is an Online Synchronous program, therefore students are expected to attend all classes and be available during class times. All applicants must refer to the program schedule available online to ensure that they can attend orientation which is mandatory. 
 
Advanced Standing - 16 months - BSW required to apply
  • Applicants who, at the time of registration, have at least three years of social service work experience and hold a Bachelor of Social Work degree from a Social Work program accredited by the Canadian Association of Social Work Education or the Council on Social Work Education are eligible for the Advanced Standing option. This is a 16-month online weekend only option that starts in September and January.
 
Regular Track - 32 months - 4-year accredited undergraduate degree in a related field required to apply
  • Applicants who, at the time of registration, have at least three years of social service work experience and hold a four-year related undergraduate degree from an accredited undergraduate program are eligible for the Regular Track MSW for Working Professionals option. This is a 32-month online weekend only option that starts in September.
 
Admission Requirements

*Although the program is online, all practicum placements must be completed in Ontario. Each candidate is expected to take a leave from their current position for the term of the placement (13 weeks).
 
If applicants are offered admission into the program they are agreeing to conduct their placement in the Province of Ontario.

Possession of the minimum requirements does not ensure admission. The actual admitting average varies and can be competitive depending on the program. It is important to note that lack of Faculty resources due to program over-capacity or similar reasons could also result in rejection and is not related to the merit of the student applying. 
 
The Master of Social Work for Working Professionals (MSWwp) (0nline) has two tracks:
  • Regular Track for those who have a four-year honours degree
  • Advanced Standing Track for those who have a BSW ONLY 

The MSW for working professionals’ program is taught in a continuous online synchronous format.
 
Regular Track Full-time MSW for Working Professionals 
This program is available to students who are working in a social service delivery position and who hold an Honours degree in a related discipline.
  • This program takes eight (8) consecutive semesters (32 months) to complete and includes a required Foundation Practicum and an Advanced Practice Internship (API).
  • Foundation Practicum and the API may involve travel and/or weekend hours, and students are responsible for transportation to and from their field placement or internship location. 
  • Students are required to complete a total of nine (9) courses, one of which is a practicum in the Foundation level of study: SWRK-8503, SWRK-8504, SWRK-8531, SWRK-8532, SWRK-8533, SWRK-8534, SWRK-8550, SWRK-8570, and SWRK-8571 (Foundation Practicum – 6.0 credit hours).
  • Students are required to complete a total of nine (9) courses, one of which is an internship in the Advanced level of study: SWRK-8521, SWRK8547, SWRK-8610, SWRK-8611, SWRK-8622, SWRK-8630 or 8631, SWRK-8640, SWRK-8680, and SWRK-8681 (Advanced Practice Internship – 6.0 credit hours). 
Advanced Standing Full-time MSW for Working Professionals
  • This program is available to students who are working in a social service delivery position and who have completed a BSW degree from a Canadian Association for Social Work Education or Council on Social Work Education accredited program.
  • The program takes four consecutive semesters (16 months) to complete and includes the completion of an Advanced Practice Internship (API).
  • The API may involve travel and/or weekend hours, and students are responsible for transportation to and from their internship location.   
  • Students are required to complete a total of nine (9) courses, one of which is an Internship: SWRK-8521, SWRK-8547, SWRK-8610, SWRK-8611, SWRK-8622, SWRK-8630 or 8631, SWRK-8640, SWRK-8680, and SWRK8681 (Advanced Practice Internship – 6.0 credit hours).
