Master of Canon Law
Description
Overview of the program
The profession of canon law demands broadly based knowledge and skill in all areas of canon law. The objective of the Master of Canon Law (MCL) program, therefore, is to develop analytical, juridical, and scholarly competence so that graduates can fulfil such functions as vicars general, chancellors, assistants or advisors to bishops and religious superiors, and expert witnesses in civil trials.
This program also equips graduates to serve in a variety of functions within ecclesiastical tribunals. Students in the Master of Canon Law program study the fundamental principles and specific canons of the Code of Canon Law of the Catholic Church.
Throughout the program, emphasis is placed upon the practical application of law. Students are required to do a major research project accomplished in the research seminar under the guidance of a professor of the Faculty of Canon Law.
The MCL is often pursued concurrently with the ecclesiastical Licentiate in Canon Law (JCL).

Program length: 6 terms (2 years, full-time).
Program delivery method: The program may be completed online or on campus.
