About the program
 
This program enhances students' knowledge and skills relating to technological change and the ways that digital technologies are transforming libraries and their services. Students develop the skills and digital competencies needed to explore the opportunities and potential impact of current and emerging technologies on their organization. Through active learning, a culminating activity and capstone project, students gain conceptual insight and practical leadership strategies in addressing issues relating to digital technologies in library and information environments. The pace of technological change in libraries creates challenges for Library Technicians. This program will focus on current and emerging technologies affecting their workplaces and having an impact on the collections and services they offer. Students will develop 21st-century fluency skills essential for active participation in libraries of all types. The certificate meets the need for ongoing professional development in this area, and provides a pathway for college and university graduates to broaden their learning.
 
Note: Admission to the program is required prior to registration for courses.

Program information
 
All courses must be completed within 4 years of acceptance into the program.

Admission requirements
  • A two or three year diploma or a degree from an accredited college or university in the field of Library and Information Technology OR
  • Master's degree in library science, library and information science or information OR
  • Graduate of the Southern Ontario Library Services (SOLS) Excel, Advanced Excel or Advancing Public Library Leadership (APLL) certificate programs OR
  • Bachelor's degree with a minimum of five years library experience in a management or senior technical position.
