Counselling Techniques Certificate (802)
Description
This program is designed for individuals who wish to develop counselling skills. Many participants are employed where skills in interviewing or information gathering are required. Professionals in the community with extensive and relevant knowledge, skills and experience facilitate the courses.
The program is delivered on a part-time basis. Courses generally are held one night a week over a 13 week period during one of the three semesters: fall, winter, and spring. Some students choose to take one course at a time. Other students are able to take two or more courses per semester which allows them to complete the certificate in less time. Courses in this program can be offered fully in class, fully online, or in a blended format (a mix of both in-class and online).
You do not need to apply to begin this program, simply ensure you meet the admission requirements, and then you may register for any available courses.
Interested in taking a single course? No problem. Provided you have the appropriate prerequisites, these courses can be taken individually or as part of the full program.
Applicants to the program must meet the following minimum requirements:
- Ontario Secondary School Diploma or equivalent (GED, College and Career Preparation).
Applicants who do not meet, or are missing, the academic eligibility requirements may email us for a Pre-Admission test(s) recommendation. Recommended Requirements:
- Excellent oral and written communication skills. Students who struggle with communication or whose first language is not English are encouraged to explore upgrading options available through our Applied Communication Centre.
- Computer skills (e.g. word processing, data management, internet access). Students should be familiar with computers, word processing, and email-based systems prior to considering this blended program (a mix of online and classroom learning). To upgrade computer skills, consider a CE introductory Computer Basics course or a Learning Support Centre workshop before applying.
You do not need to apply to begin this program. Start by ensuring you meet the admission requirements listed above and then register for the courses listed in the Program of Studies when they are offered. Some courses have prerequisites, so please check the Program of Studies for details.
