Both the Diploma in Accounting and the Certificate in Advanced Accounting were designed in collaboration with McMaster University's DeGroote School of Business and other industry experts.
In this program you will learn to:
- Demonstrate awareness of ethical practices and professional standards for the accounting profession
- Demonstrate awareness of organizational structure and the role of accounting practices within an organization
- Use effective communication strategies
- Research, calculate, analyze and evaluate accounting information appropriate to financial contexts
- Propose creative and critical options and solutions that align with accounting practices
- Recognize the impact of current economic, political and professional rules and regulations on accounting practices
- Develop knowledge and skills applicable to accounting professional designations
No application required. Students should enrol at least three weeks before classes begin.
Admission Requirements:
"The Certificate in Advanced Accounting is open to individuals with post-secondary education who have completed foundation/core-level accounting courses outside of CCE prior to beginning the Certificate.
Note: Graduates of the Diploma in Accounting are not eligible for the Certificate in Advanced Accounting.

If your first language is not English, you must meet the University’s English language proficiency requirements."
Certificate in Advanced Accounting Requirements
Academic Credit – 18 Units
- Open to individuals with post-secondary education who have completed foundation/core-level accounting courses outside of CCE prior to beginning the Certificate.
- To qualify for the Certificate, students must complete any six specialist courses.
- Students pursuing an external designation may take any number of basic courses to satisfy external program requirements.
Note: Graduates of the Diploma in Accounting are not eligible for the Certificate in Advanced Accounting.
A passing grade on the final examination is required in order to pass the course.
* New students are encouraged to contact the Centre for Continuing Education for academic counselling and a program study plan. Finance and accounting courses are offered at our Hamilton campus and online.
