Certificate in Adult Education

Description

Adult Education: The Faculty of Education's Adult Education programs specialize in the scholarship and practice of Adult Education and offer the opportunity to advance your professional knowledge and skills in adult teaching and learning environments. Most of our students are part-time, mature distance learners who apply their degrees in many sectors - business, industry, health care, government, post-secondary sectors, financial services, and manufacturing - where education and development require a solid foundation in the principles and practices of Adult Education. These sectors need educators of adults who have the knowledge and skills to facilitate adult learning. Flexible options for your education Life is busy. Flexibility and options are important. The choices are there for you to find the best fit:
  • Distance learning allows you to take our Adult Education courses online with no requirement to meet on campus.
  • We hope that you will complete your program in a timely manner but recognize that you may need to take a break here and there - we'll keep your student status active while you are on hiatus, attending to other responsibilities until you can register again.
  • During the BEd ADED program, undergraduate courses must be taken through Brock University or on a Letter of Permission. The Office of the Registrar will make the final decision on transfer courses.
  • Candidates who have obtained the Certificate in Adult Education may later apply for the BEd in Adult Education. All credits earned in the certificate program will be transferable to the degree program.
  • The BEd in Adult Education offers both first and subsequent degree options.
  • Considering a degree in a different subject area? Consult your Academic Advisor in your home faculty to determine if a minor in Adult Education is an available option for you. Please note: If your interest is in working as a teacher of children or adolescents (primary/ junior, junior/ intermediate or intermediate /senior), you should be looking to the BEd leading to the Ontario Certificate of Qualification. For more information about that program and its requirements, please visit the Teacher Education website.
