Provincial Offences
Description
Policing requires strong foundational knowledge of provincial legislation and acts in relation to offences. Students examine scenarios and determine the appropriate enforcement action for the most common provincial statutes. Topics include arrest, search and seizure authorities, common offences, and the involvement of non-police agencies. Students examine provincial legislation including the Provincial Offences Act and other relevant laws and regulations pertaining to areas such as mental health, alcohol, and drug use, hunting and fishing, child protection, accessibility, and property rights.
