Policy, Advocacy, and Legislation

Description

Students will be oriented to the legislative, policy and governance frameworks under which early childhood services in Ontario operate. They will identify, and apply relevant legislation, regulations, the College of Early Childhood Educators Standards of Practice and Code of Ethics, policies and evidence-based practice* guidelines and interpret their influence on a variety of early learning environments. They will examine the role of local, provincial and federal governments in Ontario and discuss social policies and initiatives in the ECE sector. Students will examine the structural and contextual factors of quality early childhood and reflect on policies and practices involved in the leadership, management and administration of ECE programs. Students will examine what constitutes an early childhood professional, identify supports and discuss issues related to professionalism. They will document their engagement in the practices of self-awareness, reflective practice and commitment to continuous learning. Demonstrate awareness of social justice principles and appreciate their role in advocating for quality early learning environments and collaborate with members of the early learning team, families and community partners to establish and promote such settings.
