Methods II Recovery Strategies
Description
Relapse is a process, it's not an event. The experience of relapse with Indigenous Peoples is connected to the long-term, multi-generational impacts of oppression. This course will introduce students to the processes of recovery and relapse with Indigenous Peoples. Students will learn about the history and practices of "culture as a treatment" as a stabilizing force in the reconstruction of belief in Indigenous self, culture, and one's place in creation. Students will compare and contrast Indigenous and Western approaches to recovery/treatment. Students will learn to identify factors and issues associated with relapse, and will also learn how to apply specific forms of intervention.
