Introduction to Motivational Interviewing for Professionals
Description
This course is designed for professionals and learners in the helping professions to develop introductory Motivational Interviewing skills. In this course, you will learn how to apply the four core skills of Motivational Interviewing (MI) and basic interaction techniques used in the MI approach. You will be able to illustrate what MI is and develop strategies to implement a collaborative approach that defines, summarizes, and organizes the steps for effective MI. You will learn the OARS model (open-ended questions, affirming, reflective listening, and summarizing) for supportive and helping communications. You will gain competencies related to a strength-based, anti-oppressive framework of practice that supports development of MI for holistic family enablement.
