Gastrointestinal Nursing
Description
The anatomy and physiology of the gastrointestinal tract, including accessory organs, will be reviewed in relationship to the mechanisms involved in food digestion and absorption. Specific gastrointestinal ailments will be discussed using the criteria of etiology, pathophysiology, clinical manifestation, medical management and nursing management. Common diagnostic and laboratory tests will be studied. The role of pharmacology and total parenteral nutrition will be incorporated.
