Description
This course focuses on the varied roles and responsibilities of book editors. The course also explores the unique relationship between author and editor, and how editors are involved with other facets of publishing. It reviews the basic levels of manuscript editing, including developmental work. The course offers practical instruction in the essentials of structural and substantive editing, stylistic and line editing, copyediting, proofreading and project management for general interest trade books. Students will examine the particular demands of non-fiction, fiction and specialized genres and formats such as children's books, illustrated books, ebooks, and others, focusing on common editorial dilemmas and appropriate solutions.
