Contemporary Organizational Behaviour

Organizational Behaviour (OB) is an interdisciplinary based social science which studies and applies knowledge about how people, individuals, and groups act in organizations and how human behaviour affects and is affected by dynamics in the organization [social system].

Modern organizations face a myriad of challenges. The rate of change and the increasing complexity of organizations is unprecedented. The need for agility, flexibility and adaptive responses are paramount.

Globalization, new forms of business organization, multiple dimensions of the employee, customer, and societal diversity [multi-diversity-ism], changes in internal and external quality and service expectations, increased utilization of converging technologies, the emergence of knowledge management as a critical imperative, and demands that organizations be held accountable for their actions, are important challenges to be addressed.

This course begins with defining what "OB" is about, the approaches and concepts used in its study, the various environmental contextual dimensions within which organizations operate, and examines individual dimensions as determinants of behaviour, and continues to progress through examining collective and interpersonal interrelationships, through to considering organization-wide [and societal level] variables and issues.
