Community Policing
Description
This course introduces students to the principles of "community" and "community policing" by providing a historical perspective and exploring the transformation of policing models from traditional policing to community policing. Students will discuss the standard problem-solving models and the challenges faced by policing services when trying to engage and mobilize community members. The discussion moves to the importance of police relationships with agencies and community organizations with an emphasis on restoration, collaboration, engagement and the mobilization of key stakeholders. Students will be exposed to the community safety frameworks which will support them as they develop their own community safety plan.
