Children and Chronic Illness
Description
This course examines the impacts of chronic illness on the development of young children. Theoretical frameworks and current research from developmental pediatrics are explored and critically evaluated. Specifically, young children's adaptation to illness and hospitalization will be analyzed through case study examples and problem-solving exercises. The role of the child life specialist and evidence-based practice is addressed with particular emphasis on interventions aimed at ameliorating the impact of illness.
