Advanced Communication and Leadership

The focus of this course is to allow students to gain an understanding and utilize skills of interprofessional communication with a strong focus on the nurse client relationship. Content will include examination of the nurse client relationship by exploring the contemporary principles, norms and values that form the foundation of effective interprofessional communication. Topics include perception processes, verbal/nonverbal communication, communication styles, conflict, and interpersonal communication in various relationships. Concepts that will be covered in this course includes scholarly writing, APA referencing, patterns of knowing, nurse client relationship, therapeutic communication, self concept, Students will be expected to identify and apply communication strategies and skills for personal development and professional practice.
